Some doctors choose a community. Dr. Brandon Brookins already had one, since he was born and raised right here in Donalsonville. Now he’s returning to practice internal medicine in the town that shaped him.
Dr. Brookins started his path in science with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, and went on to medical school at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan. From there he completed his internal medicine residency in Savannah, where he spent years learning to manage complex conditions like diabetes, chronic respiratory failure, and heart disease. During his final year, his colleagues chose him as chief resident, trusting him to help guide fellow residents and staff while keeping patient safety and wellness front and center. That same year, he was named medical resident of the year.
Now Dr. Brookins and his wife, Hannah, are settling back into life in Donalsonville, where he’ll begin his practice of internal medicine and put that training to work for neighbors, friends, and family. When they’re not at the clinic, you’ll likely find the two of them on a golf course somewhere nearby. Both are avid golfers, and they’re looking forward to playing the local courses often.
It’s not every day a hospital gets to welcome home a physician who grew up watching this community care for its own, and Donalsonville Hospital couldn’t be more excited to have him back.
